WWE: Brock Lesnar Renegotiating Contract with World Wrestling Entertainment
The WWE roster has been decimated by injuries lately and the company has looked to Brock Lesnar for help. According to The Wrestling Observer via Wrestle Zone, WWE has renegotiated Lesnar's current contract to add more appearances and more money.
The loss of main event talents has left WWE with no choice but to ask one of their top draws to work more dates for an increased pay. "The Beast" signed a new contract with the WWE last March after rumors of him returning to the UFC.
In a report by the Associated Press, Lesnar ruled out a return inside the Octagon and decided to sign a new three-year contract with the WWE. "The fighter in me wants to continue, but at this stage in my life, it ain't just about me anymore," Lesnar said.
According to What Culture, Lesnar signed a two-year, $10 million contract in his second stint with the WWE in 2012. The report noted that his new contract is not as big as his last contract, but it pays around $3 million per year, which is the salary of top stars like John Cena.
The addition of more dates meant more money for Lesnar and he looks okay with it especially the fact that he does not travel from city to city to wrestle. Most WWE talents that travel and wrestle a lot earns about less than a million a year. "I work a limited schedule, I work part time, with full-time pay," he said on his SportsCenter interview as quoted by What Culture.
The Inquisitr noted that Brock's star power is filling in for sidelined superstars that include Daniel Bryan, John Cena, Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Sting and The Undertaker. Bryan still has no timetable for his return, Cena is taking time off until the end of the year, and Orton is out with a shoulder injury and is out for four to six months.
Rollins just underwent surgery to repair his knee and is out for six to nine months, Sting is a part-timer who is recovering from a serious neck injury, and The Undertaker is also a part-timer that is close to retirement.
The WWE title tournament has taken over the main event scene, but the majority of the superstars involved are mid-card talents. This shows the need of WWE to make new stars even though it is hard to replace the names mentioned above.
It was announced earlier in the week by the Toyota Center Twitter account that Brock Lesnar will be making an appearance on Jan. 8, 2016, at a live event in Houston, Texas.
