'Super Smash Bros' New DLC Adds Cloud From 'Final Fantasy 7' To Roster
"Super Smash Bros." is in the business of collecting heroes and they recently announced a particularly popular one: Cloud Strife from "Final Fantasy 7."
According to a report from GameSpot, the team confirmed the latest addition to its roster in the latest Nintendo Direct presentation.
The developer released a teaser video that showcased the "Final Fantasy" protagonist crossing over to the Nintendo world and storming into battle with a stunning array of moves. The three-minute clip even allowed a glimpse of a new stage based on a "Final Fantasy VII" area dubbed Midgar, which includes cameos from the Square Enix game's summons.
"Final Fantasy" costumes inspired by Chocobo will also be debuting in the next patch. Nintendo will also likely design a Cloud amiibo figure, now that the character is part of the "Super Smash Bros" collection.
However, no release date has been confirmed yet for this "Final Fantasy"-centric DLC.
The latest presentation also revealed that there are plans for a Nintendo Direct focused on the "Super Smash Bros." franchise next month, according to a separate report from GameSpot. While no specific details have been revealed on the briefing, fans will likely expect more details on the upcoming DLC.
It's not surprising that Nintendo is turning attention on this particular franchise. The official website revealed that the game is consistently one of their most popular titles with nearly 4.8 million copies sold on Wii U, along with 7.3 million units on 3DS.
In today's presentation, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing Scott Moffitt explained that the company is offering plenty of options in the upcoming season for both newbies and loyal fans, according to The Slanted.
"There's never been a better time to join in on the fun with Nintendo," Moffitt said. "From new experiences like 'Xenoblade Chronicles X' that you can enjoy this year to re-imagined favorites like 'The Legend of Zelda' and 'Pokémon' coming in 2016, we have you covered with games you're sure to love."
"Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash" on Wii U is slated to be launched on Nov. 20, followed by the release of new RPG "Xenoblade Chronicles X" for Wii U on Dec. 4.
In 2016, the following games will be released: "Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess" HD, "The Legend of Zelda for Wii U," "Pokkén Tournament," "Star Fox Zero," original "Pokémon" games on 3DS, "Hyrule Warriors: Legends" on 3DS, "Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam" on 3DS, "Fire Emblem Fates" on 3DS and many more.
