The Xiaomi Mi 4 debuted in August 2014 as an Android juggernaut. It had a five-inch Full HD resolution screen, 3GB of RAM, 16GB to 64GB of native storage as well as a camera combo of 13 and eight megapixels. A year has passed and it's high time for Xiaomi to expand its high-end flagship portfolio. Tech pundits are sure that the upcoming Mi 5 will be a worthy follow-up, but now, another star-studded Xiaomi handset has been discovered.

A device from the Chinese mobile maker carrying the codename "Gemini" was recently caught on the Geekbench database, as per G for Games. The benchmark listing revealed specs befitting a top-tier unit.

The "Gemini" is powered by the recently unveiled 64-bit Snapdragon 820 chipset. The SoC is a return to form for Qualcomm as it went back to producing custom-built CPU cores. Qualcomm had mastered this setup until it elected to use ARM designs for the now controversial Snapdragon 810.

The Snapdragon 820 is equipped with a quad-core CPU with 64-bit Kryo cores clocked at 2.2 GHz. It is said to perform twice as fast as the one fitted on the Snapdragon 810. Efficiency is also doubled as Snapdragon 820 includes the new Hexagon 680 DSP, which takes care of digital signal processing, GSM Arena reported.

The benchmark listing did not mention the GPU running the "Gemini," although it's no secret the Snapdragon 820 comes with the Adreno 530 GPU. Graphics performance is allegedly improved up to 40 percent with the Adreno 530 GPU. This means that games run faster at a more efficient rate. Additionally, Qualcomm previously mentioned the graphics processor delivers "photorealistic" graphics.

The only other two notable details captured on Geekbench is that "Gemini" has 3GB of RAM and has the Android 6.0 pre-installed. Both specs tie in nicely with the idea that the device is none other than the Mi 5. However, that's still yet to be confirmed.

With regards to its benchmark test results, the "Gemini" proved to be an overachiever, but it won't be knocking down the latest high-end offerings from Samsung or Apple anytime in the future. Of course, this is probably an early prototype, a lot of improvements can still be made before it eventually releases.

According to Phone Arena, the Snapdragon 820 won't be shipped until early next year, so perhaps the rumored December 3rd announcement date for the Mi 5 won't materialize after all. The actual release date for the Mi 5 could be closer to the Chinese New Year happening in February.
