Sony has stepped up their game with a 4K display on a smartphone.

The Xperia Z5 Premium is the first smartphone to utilize a 4K display, Tech Radar reportsThis technology is normally used on high definition televisions. The resolution on the phone is 3,840 x 2,160, and it will look extremely sharp.

Currently there is little to no content ready for a 4K smartphone, but being able to shoot and view 4K video on the Xperia Z5 Premium is an excellent feature to have. Owners of the Xperia Z5 will also be able to look at their photos with extreme detail.

The phone has much to offer besides its 806 pixels per inch (ppi) display. It has an excellent camera, a fairly new processor and a battery life that will last long enough to get most users through the day.

The design of the Xperia Z5 Premium is classy. It has a metal finish, can be purchased in gold or silver and feels comfortable in the hand. Even though it is the same size as the 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus, the Xperia Z5 Premium feels better to the grip thanks to its boxy design.

Sony is using the same 23 megapixel (MP) camera that it uses in the standard Xperia Z5. This is an excellent camera with a fast (0.03 second) autofocus. Pictures taken will be of high quality and they will look great on the 4K display.

Battery life remains a question for the Xperia Z5 Premium. With a 4K display, Sony had to use a big 3,430 mAh battery. The life of the battery will be extended with a technology that allows the CPU to be turned off when a still image is on the screen.

The fingerprint sensor on the Xperia Z5 Premium will be on the side of the device instead of the front or back like most smartphones. Sony says users will be able to tap the side of the device to instantly unlock the phone.

The Xperia Z5 is going to be expensive when it is released. It just became available this week in the United Kingdom for £599. When it hits the U.S., it will probably cost at least $800.
