‘Super Star Wars’ Returns for PS4 & PS Vita, Nintendo Classic Expected to Land This Week
"Star Wars" mania is well and truly alive in the video game community, but it's not just the upcoming "Star Wars Battlefield" that will be available for gaming fans. Nintendo classic "Super Star Wars" will also be debuting on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita this week, upping the hype for the hotly anticipated sci-fi franchise.
According to the official PlayStation blog, "Super Star Wars" will be launched as a digital cross-buy option, which means purchasing the game in one platform also unlocks it in the other.
The game, based on the original film "Super Star Wars" was originally released in 1992 for the Super NES and relaunched in 2009 for the Wii Virtual Console, according to a report from GameSpot. Now, it will be getting the Sony treatment on the PlayStation consoles and the game is set for an upgrade.
"Enhanced for PS4 with new save features, leaderboards, Trophies, and updated display and controller options," the official description read on the PlayStation blog. "Risk your life as a Jedi Knight! Join Luke, Han, and Chewbacca in their fierce war against the evil Empire."
The re-emergence of "Super Star Wars" is a nice throwback to long-time fans of the game and the film series, but most eyes are likely on "Star Wars Battlefront." The DICE-developed game is geared for a major release, already garnering positive reviews from critics who were able to get their hands on the title early.
The successful open beta run in October, which is the biggest in EA Games history, prompted the developer to increase the game's shipment forecast, a previous report from Latin Post revealed. The team is now expecting to ship 13 million units of "Star Wars Battlefront" by the end of the fiscal year, increasing the full-year revenue forecast by $50 million as well.
"Results exceeded our expectations again," CFO Blake Jorgensen said in a report from GameSpot. "Based on the ongoing strength of our business and reception of 'Star Wars Battlefront', we are raising our full-year outlook for the second time. Our markets are very healthy, the digital transition continues to drive margins, and engagement in our live services and excitement for our upcoming launches is exceptional."
Many "Star Wars" content is due for a boost this year as the franchise unveils the seventh installment in the iconic franchise's next month.
Both "Star Wars Battlefront" and "Super Star Wars" are slated for release on Tuesday, Nov. 17.
