Apple has made sure to brag about retina screens in its marketing efforts behind the MacBook Pro, but when it comes to these special screens, the MacBook Air has been left in the dark.

It is rather understandable that the MacBook Pro boasts better features than the Air considering the price difference, but Apple fans have been left wondering when the Air will finally have a retina screen.

According to a Taiwan-based supply chain, Apple could address this as soon as 2014, according to DigiTimes. According to the source, Apple is said to be working on a MacBook Air with Retina Screen. There have been no details released about whether or not the price of the Air will go up as a result, and we can expect Apple to remain quiet about specific details, as the company usually does.

"... Apple will launch new models in the second half of 2014," the source said. "Apple will reportedly launch a MacBook Air with Retina display, the makers said."

But if the rumors are indeed true that we could see a MacBook Air with Retina screen by the second half of 2014, it should not be long before Apple does decide to unveil the new product. Until then, however, it is nothing but speculation and rumor.

All in all, we know that a retina screen is an improvement from older screens, but what exactly does it entail? How is it actually that much better? Although Apple initially faced a great deal of criticism for taking so long to adapt to the retina screen technology, the company now has been in the market for retina screens for a couple years now; the company reportedly patented the retina screens in 2012.
