Floyd Mayweather & Ronda Rousey News: 'Money' Defends ' Rowdy' From Critics, Offers Help
Retired and undefeated boxing great Floyd "Money" Mayweather and former UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey have a history of exchanging verbal shots at each other since 2014. "Money" changed his tone in an interview with Fight Hype, defending Rousey from internet trolls and even offering help to improve his boxing skills.
"I don't think it's cool how everyone is trolling her on social media. People will love you on Friday and then Sunday morning, it's nothing but negative comments and people making jokes and people making fun about you, which I don't think is cool. I've never been on the other side, so I don't know how it feels. I'm pretty sure she's a very, very strong person, but we still have to take into consideration that she has feelings," Mayweather said.
When "Rowdy" lost to Holly Holm via knockout last UFC 193, one of Mayweather's close friend, rapper 50 Cent, posted a picture on Instagram that was taken from a scene in "Rocky IV" where Rocky Balboa was holding Apollo Creed with an out-cold Rousey replacing Creed. 50 Cent said that the undefeated boxer told him to post the picture, per FOX Sports.
Mayweather denied that he instructed the rapper to post on his behalf, and the post itself was already taken down. In a separate interview with Fight Hype, "Money" offered Rousey help to improve her boxing skills that were clearly exposed in her loss against Holm.
"I want Ronda Rousey to hold her head up high and don't let this discourage you. If you need help as far as with boxing, I'm here to help you. It's all about timing and inches," Mayweather said.
According to Bleacher Report, Rousey looked out of his element against the former 15-time boxing champion as she failed to take control of the fight after finishing his last three opponents, lasting 64 seconds in total. The report notes that the former champion needs to improve her striking and stand-up defense before thinking of a rematch with Holm.
In a report by MMA Fighting, UFC President Dana White is scheduled to meet with Rousey next week but will not be talking about her rematch. He said in a previous interview that it is possible that her next fight will be on UFC 200 in July, which may very well be the biggest card in UFC history. The 28-year-old has released a statement via Instagram regarding her future, saying that she will be taking some time off but insisted that she will be back.
