HTC One M9s Specs & Release Date: Five-Inch Full-HD LTE Smartphone Officially Announced, Pre-Order Starts
HTC recently announced yet another version of the One M9 at a press event in Taiwan. The One M9s has all the looks of its namesake, save for a few subtle changes.
According to HTC, with translation from GSMDome, the new model sports the same five-inch 1080 x 1920 Full-HD LCD display as the One M9. One of the main differences between the two is that the One M9s is powered by MediaTek's 64-bit Helio X10 SoC while the One M9 has the controversial Snapdragon 810 under the hood.
The One M9s comes with the same all-metal frame as its high-end parent. It also has the same dimensions. It measures 144.6 millimeters long, 69.7 millimeters wide and 9.6 millimeters thick. The lights are kept on by the same non-removable Li-Po 2,840 mAh battery.
Their similarities begin to plummet from there as budget cuts can immediately be spotted further down the specs sheet. The One M9s only comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of native storage. This is at par with HTC's other mid-tier offerings, the One E9 and E9s. That in mind, the device does have support for micro-SD expansion up to 2TB.
The rear camera is a combination of existing models. The One M9s is equipped with a 13-megapixel unit, like that of One E9 and E9s, but it has optical image stabilization that is so far only featured on the Supreme Camera edition of the One M9+.
Additionally, the rear camera has a 27.8-millimeter equivalent lens complete with sapphire crystal front element and an aperture of f/2.0. The front-facing unit is a four-megapixel ultrapixel camera with 26-millimeter equivalent f/2.0 lens.
"An f/2.0 lens means that that piece of glass is capable of an f/2.0 aperture. Generally this means that f/2.0 is that widest aperture the lens has. This type of lens lets a lot of light through and can be called a fast lens in the industry. Fast lenses are able to offer faster shutter speeds and can work in lower light," said professional photographer Brendan Smialowski on Quora.
The device comes with the usual support for wide range connectivity including multiple LTE bands and quad-band 2G/3G. There's also GPS with A-GPS, NFC, Bluetooth v4.1, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, GLONASS and Beidou.
The One M9s is now available for pre-order in Taiwan for NT$12,900 or roughly $390. Pre-orders will start shipping on Nov. 21. The device's global availability has yet to be reported.
