LG G5 Release Date, News, Rumors: New Flagship to Have Metal Unibody Construction?
The latest rumor regarding the LG G5 claims the device will come with a metal unibody construction when it eventually releases to the public.
NaverNews, via G for Games, reported that there are murmurs in LG's home country of South Korea suggesting that the mobile maker will finally debut its first metal-clad flagship smartphone, following four generations of plastic handsets.
LG's rumored decision to outfit the G5 with a glossier frame has everything to do with how popular the metal smartphones from Apple and Samsung have become.
For the past few years, the market for high-end smartphones has evolved from colorful plastic builds to more lustrous metal designs. This has reached a point where even upstart companies get to boast metal smartphones every few months or so.
Rumor has it that the G5 will be launched sometime in early 2016, around the same time Samsung outs the Galaxy S7. Global availability of the G5 will surely be revealed during the handset's announcement, which is reportedly coming very soon.
This information should be taken with a wee bit of salt as LG has yet to confirm anything about the G5. However, it makes reasonable sense for the LG to switch to what's been deemed as the "premium" material for smartphones, especially now that its competitors have done just that.
LG seems to have already been toying with the idea since it was just last week when the company unveiled a white gold edition of the G4. Android Central reported that the new color scheme was aimed at women and young costumers. As its name suggests, the smartphone is coated in white and gold. Bear in mind that it's the color gold and not the precious metal.
The smartphone's side edges are dressed in gold while its front and back are clad in ghost white. Its rear end is protected with a sleek matte casing, which is in contrast to the leather and plastic covers of older G4 models.
Prospective buyers, who valued color coordination and individuality, were not disappointed with the G4 when it released in April 2015. The smartphone came in two build models and was available in nine color variants, per Phone Arena.
The plastic G4 was offered in white, gold and gray and had an intricately designed back that featured dimples and diamonds. Meanwhile, the color options for the leather G4 were beige, black, brown, red, sky blue and yellow.
