Pierce Brosnan, who once played the iconic role of secret agent James Bond, had a few unflattering things to say about the latest film in the Bond series, "Spectre."

According to an interview on HitFix, the former 007 actor did not pull his punches, letting his thoughts be known about the new film, which stars Daniel Craig in the iconic role of Bond.

While on the interview circuit promoting his new film "No Escape," Brosnan was asked his thoughts on Craig's latest franchise installment. Like any fan, the actor said he was particularly excited for the film's release. But after watching it, there were a few things about the film that he did not like.

Brosnan took particular issue with the quality of the story.

"I was looking forward to it enormously," Brosnan told HitFix. "I thought it was too long. The story was kind of weak -- it could have been condensed. It kind of went on too long. It really did."

Brosnan played the role of Bond in four films from 1995 to 2002, before Craig came in to replace him. For Brosnan, the franchise is a legacy, a torch he passed on to Craig.

Brosnan said he thought the franchise was becoming more like the "Bourne Identity" series, which many have hailed as the American version of James Bond.

"['Spectre'] is neither fish nor fowl. It's neither Bond nor Bourne. Am I in a Bond movie? Not in a Bond movie?" Brosnan said. "But Daniel, in the fourth go-round, has ownership of it. He had a nice looseness to him."

Craig recently offered his own thoughts on the franchise moving forward. The actor previously told TimeOut London that he is less than enthusiastic about returning to the franchise for another film. He even went as far as to say he would rather slash his wrists than make another Bond picture.
