UFC News & Notes: Jose Aldo Thinks Ronda Rousey Will Never Fight Again
Less than a week after Ronda Rousey's shocking and devastating loss to Holly Holm, many people are wondering what is next for the former UFC women's bantamweight champion. Current UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo told the media at Nova União in Brazil that Rousey would never fight again inside the octagon.
"I think it's really hard for her to return to fighting. Her career has taken a different direction. If I'm making a lot of money doing movies or something else, I'd go that direction too," Aldo said as quoted by MMA Fighting.
"In my opinion, I don't think she fights again. If she comes back, of course, she can win the title. She was always a fighter, but if I were her, I wouldn't come back," he added. Aldo compared Rousey's loss to Gina Carano's defeat in the hands of Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino back in 2009.
Carano lost via a first round knockout and has never fought since. She went on to become an actress starring in movies like "Haywire," "Fast & Furious 6" and "Heist" with roles in upcoming films like Marvel's "Deadpool" and "Kickboxer: Vengeance," per Tribute.
If "Rowdy" would indeed retire from the UFC, Aldo said that she already made a big impact in the history of mixed martial arts.
"I think the legacy Ronda leaves behind is that she changed women's MMA. She put it where no one ever imagined, where even Dana White said it would never be, and it is now. That's her legacy. She has done a lot for women's sport," "Scarface" said.
On a recent Instagram post, Rousey said that she would be taking some time off but insisted that she would be back. Rousey is scheduled to film "Mile 22" with Mark Wahlberg and Iko Uwais in Jakarta, Indonesia in March 2016, per MMA Mania. She will also be starring in the remake of Patrick Swayze's "Road House."
Her camp has been adamant that the 28-year-old will be back to reclaim her title and legacy as the greatest of all time. Justin Flores, her long time Judo coach, said that he will do everything he can to help Rousey make the adjustments for a possible rematch with Holm, as per MMA Junkie.
As for Aldo, he has his hands full as he prepares for his toughest test in his career. He will have a title unification fight against rival Conor McGregor at UFC 194 that will be held at Las Vegas, Nevada on Dec. 12.
