New Apple App May Speed up Your Wait Time at the Apple Genius Bar
Apple is reportedly working on a support app for their iPhones and iPads that is aimed at cutting short, or even eliminating, the time a customer typically endures while standing around at an Apple Genius Bar.
According to Engadget, an Apple insider has revealed that the new app will ask Apple customers basic questions regarding their device in order to get to the problem faster. Aside from this, the app will set up a service appointment for them. Users needing tech help will be able to report a problem and then get support through a live chat feature.
Apple’s current Apple Store app does nothing but set up appointments for customers at the nearest Apple store.
There is no information on when this time saving app might be launched, and there remains the possibility that the support software might just become part of the existing Apple Store app rather than stand out as a new app.
In the meantime, should you need to stand in line at an Apple Genius Bar, there are several precautions you might want to take.
According to Time, an Apple store insider named Aaron Epperson offered a list of strategies that would make the Genius Bar experience less painful. Some of his suggestions included making an appointment, backing up your data, and leaving your tech savvy pal home. Another thing to do is try to stay calm. “No one was ever out for the customer,” said Epperson, “So directing anger at the employee isn’t going to get you very far.”
Aside from this, a customer should always keep in mind the nature of the retail experience. “It’s better to look at an Apple Store more like a car dealership, due to the fact that it has a retail section where you can buy technology, but it also has a very large service department, which is what the Genius Bar really is,” explained Epperson.
