‘Destiny’ Game Update: Bungie Rewards Refer-A-Friend Players With Swords & Emotes, More Patch Details Announced
It's more fun playing with a pal. This is the theory behind Bungie's new Refer-a-Friend program, which rewards new and old players for playing together in the "Destiny: The Taken King."
A new trailer dropped highlighting this new feature of "Destiny: The Taken King" and listing the tantalizing rewards that can be earned, according to a report from GameSpot.
Most significantly, players can get their hands on three new legendary swords dubbed the Elemental Kindblades as well as two new emotes: Duo Dance and High Five. Other treats from Refer-a-Friend include Infinite Link (shader), Sign of the Infinite (emblem) and EV-34 Vector Infinite (emblem).
This feature is reportedly live through a new quest. This mission requires gamers to refer a newbie to the game, although both players would have to be using the same platform. The Refer-a-Friend program is only available at PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Links between Veterans (existing players) and Referees (new players) are formed at the Bungie official website. The developer provided more information through a Refer-a-Friend FAQ page on the site.
Meanwhile, "Destiny" is restocking its arsenal in the upcoming patch with a slew of new and improved weapons and gears, notably a number of old favorites from year one of the game. According to a report from Eurogamer, the December update of the game will bring a great selection of guns including the beloved MIDA Multi-Tool exotic scout rifle. Many have been clamoring for it since it was phased out in the initial launch, and now players will be delighted to see it part of the game again.
Other weapons that will be making a comeback are the fusion rifle Plan C as well as the Super Good Advice machine gun, Hard Light auto rifle and Dragon's Breath rocket launcher. The No Land Beyond sniper rifle, which was slammed for its shaky handling, will also be getting an update to improve its performance for the next patch.
Creative Director Luke Smith previously talked to Eurogamer back in September, addressing the issue of leaving much of Year One's most iconic weapons out of the newest game.
"It's a balancing act across a variety of teams -- we want to look at the PVP and PVE games and do something for both," Smith explained. "There's an exotic handcannon overbalance right now, which is why we're nerfing Thorn and The Last World and not bringing them forward."
He added, "[And] we're deliberately leaving Ice Breaker behind because ultimately it presents a way for you to play the game that ultimately isn't that engaging."
