With the season finale of How I Met Your Mother looming in the next few days, fans who practically grew up with the series over the last nine years are trying to wrap their heads around what could be the ending. There are several possible scenarios floating around and some of them include the theory about the mom's death.

A couple of weeks back, TV Guide co-creator Craig Thomas was interviewed and he hinted at the appearance of a special guest star in the show's finale. He said that the guest would be a fun and random person from the show's past. Combine this with Josh Radnor's hint and see if you can figure it out.  

The second possible scenario for the ending is Ted having Alzheimer's. According to Hollywood Hills, the finale's guest stars will include Judith Drake, who played Bernice in past episodes. She is the woman whom Ted meets on the train platform and although she isn't the "mother," their story could prove significant to the ending. Bernice and Ted met when Ted was still nursing a broken heart at seeing Robin and Barney get married. As he and Bernice sit at the train station, the mother is bound to walk by and this is where she and Ted will meet for the first time. Bernice has been giving advice to the rest of the cast's characters for the entire ninth season and this could be her chance at giving expert advice to Ted regarding his love life.

There are dozens of other alternative scenarios that fans have been tossing around. This is probably because the show has received such a huge following over the last nine years. Rarely does a TV series reach 9 seasons and for this, How I Met Your Mother should go in the books. For fans and those who wonder what it's all about, the series finale will air on Monday, March 31 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
