Google Chrome Extension Blocks Unwanted 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Spoilers
Fans of the "Star Wars" series are extremely excited for the upcoming installment "The Force Awakens," leading some to develop a tool to avoid any ruined surprises.
With so many people online talking about the movie, there will definitely be some spoilers when the film hits theaters. For those who do not want the movie to be spoiled with early information, there is an Internet tool that will prevent any spoilers from appearing while browsing the web.
The Star Wars Spoiler Blocker is a Google Chrome extension that was designed to warn people browsing the Internet that there could be spoilers on a page they are visiting, Mashable reports.
The extension will quickly scan a page that the user is about to visit to check if it mentions "Star Wars" at all. If the tool discovers potential spoilers in the text, it will place the "Star Wars" logo over the suspect section.
Users can then decide to leave the page or proceed. If they proceed, they might end up reading something that they did not want to see about the movie.
The tool is a little too strong, though. Any time "Star Wars" is mentioned on a page, it will be blocked by the Spoiler Blocker. This means that any news site that mentions "Star Wars" in a headline will trigger the extension, even if the article contains no spoilers.
Speed is a necessary feature for the Star Wars Spoiler Blocker. Unfortunately, it takes a couple seconds for the app to scan the page before putting up the blocking logo. This means that it is still possible that a user could accidentally read some spoiler information before they scroll through a page.
The Star Wars Spoiler Blocker is available from the Chrome Web Store for free. It was created by the Jitbit team and was first spotted on the Product Hunt page.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens Dec. 18.
