Huawei Mate 8 Renders Leaked, Honor Play 5X Passes US FCC
Two upcoming high-end smartphones from Huawei have been separately leaked online.
First up is the Huawei Mate 8, which is said to be the successor to last year's Ascend Mate 7. Rumor has it that the handset will be showcased at a grand unveiling on Nov. 26. A few days before the event, anxious fans got their first look at the device via a full set of leaked renders from China, per G for Games.
As seen from this angle, the Mate 8 employs the same material featured on other top-tier Huawei offerings. Another image shows the handset in four color options namely gray, gold, copper and black.
One render confirmed the placement of the fingerprint sensor below the handset's rear-facing unit. The camera lens is shown having a metal ring around it. Meanwhile, two speaker grilles could be found at the base of the device, flanking the USB port. From the looks of things, the screen doesn't have any bezels although it is protected with some type of 2.5D glass covering.
The Mate 8 has a six-inch screen with 1080 x 1920 resolution display, Huawei's Kirin 950 SoC, 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32gb or 64GB of internal memory. The rear camera maxes out at 20 megapixels while the selfie shooter is at five megapixels. Battery capacity is listed at 4,100 mAh. Android 6.0 is pre-installed, underneath the Emotion UI, GSM Arena reported.
The second Huawei smartphone that leaked online is the Honor Play 5X, carrying build number KIW-L22. TimesNews pointed out that the handset recently got certified by the Federal Communications Commission in the U.S.
The Honor Play 5X sports a smaller 5.5-inch screen with 1080 x 1920 resolution display. It is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 615 SoC, complete with an eight-core 1.5GHz CPU and the Adreno 405 GPU. RAM and native storage are at 2GB/3GB and 16GB, respectively. The hard disk can be expanded up to 128GB via a micro-SD card slot.
The 13-megapixel camera on the back comes with an f/2.0 aperture while selfies and video chats are taken care of by a five-megapixel front-facing unit. Below the rear-facing unit is a fingerprint sensor. A 3,000 mAh dry cell keeps the lights on, and Android 5.1 is pre-installed with Emotion UI 3.1 running on top.
The Honor Play 5X costs the equivalent of $157 for the 2GB model while the 3GB model carries a $220 price tag. Color options are sunset gold and silver.
