Benzino Shooting: 'Love & Hip Star' Shot Multiple Times By His Own Nephew
Notorious Love and Hip Hop reality star Benzino was shot and injured during his mother's funeral in Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon.
The shots were fired during the funeral procession for Benzino's mother. Benzino, whose real name is Raymond Scott, was traveling on Route 3 south of Boston, when suddenly his own nephew pulled up alongside his car and fired several shots into Benzino's red SUV.
The 48-year-old rapper exited his SUV after being struck and was taken to the Duxbury Police Department. Soon after, Benzino was transferred to the local South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth.
Though Benzino was shot several times, he is reported to be in good condition. According to Hip-Hop Weekly, the rapper was shot in the arm. Fortunately, the following bullet only grazed his back and there were no serious injuries.
The gunman is none other than Benzino's own nephew, Gai Scott. The 36-year-old had been "beefing" with Benzino for a while, according to family members. The tension had been growing between the two for quite some time. Scott was immediately arrested and charged with assault with the intent to murder.
Police fled to the scene following the shoot-out and found Benzino's red SUV in the middle of Route 3 with bullet holes and what appeared to be blood stains inside the vehicle. Shell castings and projectiles were also found at the scene of the crime, according to Fox News.
Benzino is currently known for starring in VH1 hit reality TV series, Love & Hip Hop. The show recently wrapped up its fourth season and is reported to be shooting a fifth season soon. Aside from reality TV, Benzino's previous accolades include his former co-ownership of the widely popular The Source Magazine and his later launch of noted magazine Hip Hop Weekly.
