#ThankgivingWithHispanics Trends on Social Media, Depicting Latino Holiday Celebrations
On Nov. 24, just in time for Thanksgiving, social media went crazy with the hashtag #ThanksgivingWithHispanics, which teased the various things Latinos expect to deal with when gathering for the holiday.
Many Twitter and Instagram users shared their favorite puns and jokes that revealed their past experiences. The topic became such a popular trend that it even started a #ThanksgivingWithBlackFamilies hashtag.
The two hashtags, although about different cultural backgrounds, eventually seemed to be become more and more similar, recounting the drunk uncle at parties, the countless family members whose names you don't remember, the criticism and questions from relatives and having to wait forever to finally eat.
Twitter users shared a variety of Vine videos and photographs that complimented their tweets and included images of a few Latino stars like Selena Gomez, whose crying face has been used as a meme plenty of times over on social media.
Instagram users posted a variety of photos accompanied by a series of phrases that were, at times unfortunately, too familiar for most Latino users.
The trend kept growing until there were countless images of various pop cultural references and memes supporting the hashtag.
Regardless of whether on Twitter or Instagram, users found reality star Kim Kardashian to be a perfect subject for their many accounts of Latino traditions and culture on Thanksgiving. Several posts show Kardashian, in a screenshot from an episode of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," sitting down with a serious face. Users added a variety of puns to these pictures of Kardashian alone.
