Windows 10 Mobile: 4.5-Inch Katana 01 Hitting the Market Soon; Specs, Features & More Details Here
Contrary to popular belief, Windows 10 Mobile is not exclusive for Microsoft-made devices. As a matter of fact, Freetel will be releasing its first Windows 10 smartphone next week.
According to the Japanese OEM's website, with translation from NokiaPowerUser, the Katana 01 sports a 4.5-inch screen with 480p resolution display. It is powered by an unspecified quad-core CPU clocked at 1.1GHz, coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of native storage. Customers who want to add extra hard disk space can do so via the handset's support for micro-SD expansion up to 32GB. Battery capacity is at 1,750 mAh.
In the camera department, the Katana 01 is flanked between a five-megapixel back camera and a two-megapixel front-facing unit. With regards to its price, the dual-SIM handset will retail for ¥12,800. If current exchange rates stay the same, that's $105 in the U.S.
The Katana 01 will go on sale in Freetel's home country of Japan starting Nov. 30. Unfortunately, there's still no word about its global availability.
This early, Freetel is already listing the Katana 02 as "coming soon." Its specifications include a five-inch screen with a 720 x 1280 HD resolution display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of native storage and an eight-megapixel camera.
It can be remembered that Freetel showcased a prototype of its Windows 10 smartphone at a Microsoft press event in Japan a few weeks back. It was joined by other Asian OEMs such as VAIO, Acer, Mouse Computer, NuAns and Thirdwave, per K-Tai.
VAIO brought a mock-up handset to the event and indicated that its Windows Mobile 10 smartphone is currently in development, en route to an early 2016 debut.
Acer showcased the Liquid M330. The handset has a 4.5-inch screen, the Snapdragon 820 chipset, 1GB of RAM and a fingerprint sensor. Meanwhile, Mouse Computer said it is still working on its Windows 10 device. The PC OEM unveiled the mid-level MADOSMA Windows Phone 8.1 earlier this year.
NuAns, the most upstart of the bunch, introduced the NuAns NEO. The wood-themed smartphone is available in multiple albeit unspecified colors. It has the distinction of not being a Windows Reference Design device, WMPowerUser reported.
Thirdwave displayed the Diginnos Mobile DG-W10M. It comes with a five-inch 720 x 1280 resolution screen, a four-core CPU, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable native storage. Camera combo is quoted at eight and two megapixels. The smartphone is known to support 4G LTE, although more connectivity options are expected to be announced soon.
