Washington Redskins' Chris Culliver Out for the Season Due to ACL Injury
Washington Redskins cornerback Chris Culliver is out for the season due to a torn ACL injury.
Culliver, the 27-year-old NFL athlete, hurt his right knee during the Redskins' practice on Thursday, Nov. 26, ESPN reported, citing a source from the team. With his current situation, he can not support his team for the remainder of the 2015 season, the outlet noted.
The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native sustained a knee injury while trying to defend a pass, the outlet added. An MRI result also reportedly confirmed the Culliver's current physical and medical condition.
Free safety and teammate Dashon Goldson is concerned for Culliver and his team's future. For him, he is needed at the camp because of how he inspire and motivate other team members when he is around, The Washington Times noted.
"It would suck to lose him. He's one of our leaders, and a lot of guys look up to him around here. I think he's concerned. He's had to battle some things this year with the knee and a couple of injuries, so he's been frustrated with that," Goldson shared.
Even the Redskins coach Jay Gruden commended him in July, just four months after he signed a contract, per the official site of the team.
"It's great to have him out here. He can challenge you at the line of scrimmage. He can play off, and he's a great tackler. He wants everything to be perfect. He's going to make everybody better around him, not only the defensive backs but the receivers. Every time we run a route against him, it'll be a great challenge. Can't do a lot of bump and run out here today where you see his true skill, but I think he's a good football player," Gruden said.
However, the cornerback already missed several games this season because of knee problems. He reportedly was off the field during their games against the Atlanta Falcons, the New York Jets and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The cornerback entered the Washington NFL team as a free agent and inked a four-year deal worth $32 million in March, NFL.com noted citing Ian Rapoport. Culliver made his debut in the league in 2011 as a member of the San Francisco 49ers. He completed his first two seasons with the 49ers, per ESPN stats, However, he missed the entire 2013 season because of an ACL injury, too, NFL.com noted. He bounced back in 2014 with four interceptions, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and 15 passes defended.
He only played six games with the Redskins, with one defended pass.
