‘Gremlins’ Reboot May Get Zach Galligan, Other Stars Back [Watch]
On Wednesday, Zach Galligan, star of the classic 1984 film "Gremlins," hosted a screening event for the film in London and fielded questions during a Q&A following the movie.
According to Comic Book, Galligan had a few things to say about the original film, but he also answered questions about the planned follow-up for the series. He fervently made clear the new film would not be a remake, but rather a true sequel.
"It's not going to be a reboot," Galligan said to the crowd. "It will not be a remake in any way, shape, or form. Chris Columbus has come out and said that the first film is very near and dear to his heart and as long as he is alive it will never be remade. So the only thing they will be, and apparently are going to be doing, is something along the lines of like 'Jurassic World,' where it will be 30 years later."
Given that the new film will continue the story, the project also opens up the opportunity for Galligan to get his foot back in the door and reprise his role as Billy Peltzer from the original.
Galligan starred in the film alongside teen idol Phoebe Cates. They both also starred in the one and only sequel in the franchise to date. The film also featured a very young Corey Feldman in a smaller role.
Galligan's comments left fans wondering if the actor's commitment to come back to the franchise would be enough to lure Cates out of retirement to reprise her role as well. The two played characters who seemed very much in love the last time fans saw them.
"I swear on my life, I don't know if I'm in it or not, but I think there is probably a decent chance since I'm one of the few people left standing from the first movie," Galligan said.
