'The Revenant' News Update: New Trailer Showcases Leonardo DiCaprio, Emmanuel Lubezki's Work
Buzz continues to surface on Alejandro González Iñárritu's latest film "The Revenant," as Fox has unveiled a new trailer for the Oscar contender, featuring its two stars.
First, Leonardo DiCaprio is seen throughout the trailer overcoming obstacles and facing intense weather conditions. The second star is Emmanuel Lubezki and his memorizing cinematography. The film was shot entirely with natural light, and it is clear that Lubezki has brought elements from "The Tree of Life," "Birdman" and "Children of Men" to this new project.
The trailer once again shows the violence of the film, as well as the importance of quiet. The trailer is propelled by beating drums, giving the clip kinetic energy.
Both Lubezki and DiCaprio are gaining Oscar buzz for their work on the film, and they are expected to go home with Oscars this February. DiCaprio, who has been nominated for his work on "The Aviator," "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "Blood Diamond," would win his first Oscar, while Lubezki could win his third. The Mexican Cinematographer has won for "Birdman" and "Gravity," and he has been nominated for his work on "The Tree of Life," "Children of Men," "The New World," "Sleepy Hollow" and "A Little Princess."
Aside from his Oscar-nominated work, Lubezki has also lensed "Knights of Cup," "Burn after Reading," "To the Wonder" and the upcoming "Last Days in the Desert."
Iñárritu won the Oscar last year for his work on "Birdman" and is also known for directing Oscar nominees "Amore Perros," "Babel," "Biutiful" and "21 Grams." The film also stars Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulter.
"The Revenant" is expected to open on Dec. 25 before going nationwide on Jan. 8. The film was originally budgeted at $90 million, but due to delays in production and harsh weather conditions, the film's budget ballooned up to $130 million. The film's delayed schedule also caused Hardy to drop out of "Suicide Squad."
