#PopeBars Twitter Hashtag Combines Photo of Pope Francis With Rap Lyrics
A photo of the Pope is trending on Twitter, as users ad rap lyrics to the pontiff's image.
According to The Huffington Post, the photo that started it all was taken by AFP news agency's Gianluigi Guercia while Pope Francis was in Bangui, Central African Republic on Monday. The Pope was giving a blessing at a camp for internally displaced people at St. Saviour parish.
The pontiff, known for being a far more liberal pope than some of his predecessors and for connecting to millenials through social media, spoke to the Christian and Muslim communities about their conflict, preaching peace and forgiveness.
Soon after the photo surfaced, showing the pope with a mic in his hand, social media users took the photo and captioned it with their best lyrics.
Some of the best images sampled iconic lyrics and modified them to fit the Pope's real job as leader of the Roman Catholic Church.
Popular songs sampled by users included "Gangsta's Paradise" by Coolio, House of Pain's "Jump Around," Notorious B.I.G.'s "It was all a dream," Eminem's "Lose Yourself," Ludacris' "What's Your Fantasy" and Drake and Future's "Jumpman."
Others were more original and definitely set the bar high, including one by actor, playwright and composer Lin-Manuel Miranda.
And last but not least, someone made an entire mixtape of songs that could possibly be on the new rapping pontiff's album.
