‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Danny Pino Joins CBS’s ‘BrainDead’
Actor Danny Pino has signed on to join the cast of CBS's new comedic thriller "Braindead."
Pino is no stranger to police dramas on both CBS and NBC. The "Law & Order: SVU" star also starred in "Cold Case" on CBS before joining the network's newest project.
According to Deadline, Pino will be joining Mary Elizabeth Winstead as a co-star in the new political thriller comedy that has been slated for a summer release on the network.
The new show brings both an interesting story and unique comedic edge to the current state of politics. The basic premise behind the series is that Laurel (Winstead) is a new staffer on Capitol Hill. She arrives to work and finds that Congress is dysfunctional, but for reasons that go far beyond the political scandals that take place in real life.
As it turns out, alien activity is rampant on Earth. The extraterrestrials have laid their spawn inside the heads of Congressmen and women, including a majority of their staffers as well.
As viewers can understand from the premise alone, this series is primed to play off the current state of Congress, making light of the constant gridlock between the legislature and the White House, as politicians tow partisan lines. The show will take jabs at the largely ineffectual Congress of late, which has suffered drastic inactivity because of major partisan divides.
Deadline reports that Pino's role in the series will be that of Luke, Laurel's older brother. He also happens to be a senator from Maryland and the Democratic whip.
Pino has had back-to-back runs on his past three shows now, including a seven-year run on "Cold Case" as the male lead, before transitioning over to "SVU." He recently departed that show and is now going straight into "BrainDead."
