Virginia Couple Wins Lottery Three Times In One Month
Talk about luck. Calvin and Zatera Spencer have recently become instant millionaires after winning the lottery three times in one month. Wow.
The Spencer's are from Portsmouth, Virginia and their luck began on March 12 when the couple won $1 million on Powerball. The odds of winning the Powerball are 1 in 5,153,633 according to Virginia Lottery Spokesman, John Hagerty.
Their luck did not stop there. On March 26, Calvin Spencer won $50,000 from Virginia Lottery's Pick 4 game. The winning combination in the Pick 4 game was 6-6-6-6. Players with the winning combination earned $5,000. Calvin had ten tickets with the winning combination, earning him a grand total of $50,000.
Call it luck or call it fate, but the Spencer's beat the odds yet again the very next day. On March 27, Calvin continued his winning streak and became a million dollar winner in the $100 Million Cash Extravaganza.
"The $1 million prize in $100 Million Cash Extravaganza is an annuity, which means the Spencer's had the choice of taking the full $1 million prize over 30 years or a one-time cash option of $681,000 before taxes. They chose the cash option," according to USA Today.
The 7-Eleven where Calvin purchased his Extravaganza ticket also profited from the Spencer's big win. The store was awarded a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
The odds of winning the $100 Million Cash Extravaganza are 1 in 836,000 Hagerty said to the Los Angeles Times.
Despite the Spencer's huge lottery success over the course of one month, the couple plans to continue trying their luck. According to lottery officials, the Spencer's have said, "We're not finished yet."
There is no news as to what the Spencer's plan to do with all the money they've acquired in the last few weeks. Either way, we wish them well. Congratulations, Calvin and Zatera!
