BlackBerry, since it started coming out of its shell and releasing the BlackBerry PRIV, has already built a name of its own. Now, the Android-based PRIV is getting a new software update that will improve its performance as well as its security.

According to Phone Arena, the BlackBerry PRIV software update will require 475 MB of space and will perform some updates that will improve the overall performance of the handset. Despite going unnoticed, the camera of the PRIV will also be included in the update, saying that it will help speed up the camera app while improving images taken in low-light environments.

The BlackBerry Blog also revealed some upcoming updates for the BlackBerry PRIV. These include some enhancements on the handset's apps such as the support for 16:9 photos on the BlackBerry camera, an increased language support, additional emojis, predictive typing on keyboard and inclusion of WhatsApp to Hub & Contacts. To further secure the device, DTEK by BlackBerry will send more notification options that will alert the user when a specific app tries to gather personal information.

Downloading the update is free and easy to do in just four steps.

First, connect to a Wi-Fi in order to save your data charges. Once connected, start downloading the update from your notification's tray. In case you don't have it there, you can go to About > Systems Update and tap on the Check for Updates icon. Once you tap the update, it will start downloading. Users can continue their normal activity on their BlackBerry PRIV while the update is downloading on the background. In order to complete the installation process, the handset needs to be restarted. The said update will be available to all BlackBerry PRIV users who purchased their handsets from the Blackberry online shop.

The BlackBerry PRIV was released last Nov. 6. Its specifications include a 5.4-inch screen with 1440 x 2560 resolution.
