Disabled Man Assaulted, Attackers Post Footage on Facebook
Two men robbed and assaulted a disabled man on Sunday, posting footage of the incident on the victim's Facebook account afterward.
Nikey Dashone Walker and Shadeed Dontae Bey, both 20, were arrested by Oakland County police on Monday, The Washington Post reports. Authorities say Walker and Bey assaulted the 23-year-old man with cerebral palsy after he attempted to retrieve his stolen phone Sunday morning in Pontiac, Michigan, 30 miles outside of Detroit.
The graphic video shows the unnamed victim putting his fists up before he is kicked in the groin and repeatedly kicked while on the ground.
One of the attackers tells the other to record the assault.
"Come on, hold up. Stop, bro," says one of the men.
"I can't, *expletive*," the other replies. He later notes that the victim looks unconscious, before continuing to attack him.
Police responded to reports of a wounded man outside of the Phoenix Place Apartments.
Detectives later discovered the attackers uploaded the footage, recorded on the victim's phone, to the disabled man's Facebook profile, as well as their own social media accounts.
"Preying on those in our community who suffer from disabilities will not be tolerated and furthermore, to have the audacity to post their actions on the victim's page is beyond belief," said Sheriff Michael Bouchard in a statement. "I am proud of the deputies at the Pontiac Substation and the excellent investigative work that was completed in order to bring these two cowards to justice."
The suspects are currently being held on $25,000 bond. The two are facing several felony charges, including assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, home invasion and unarmed robbery. If convicted on all three charges, they could receive a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
Both men reportedly have criminal history, including felony larceny and trespassing for Bey, and unlawful driving away of an automobile in Walker's case.
