Former Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is reportedly eyeing a rematch against Daniel Cormier on April 23 in New York.

Cormier also hinted that he is open to facing Jones, who will be coming off a long layoff, but the current light heavyweight champion said that it should be on his own terms, saying that he has already informed UFC about possible fight dates and venues.

"I've given a couple dates I'd be willing to look at," Cormier said via MMA Fighting. "Maybe you guys will know something soon. I'm going to make my decision as the champion sooner rather than later. Just put it like that."

Malki Kawa, Jones' manager, said that the former champion wants the fight to happen at Madison Square Garden in New York. Cormier said that fighting at MSG will be a big deal for him, but he reiterated that he does not want to give into Jones' demand because he is the champion, not Jones.

"If it is the Garden, April 23 maybe becomes more intriguing," Cormier said of facing Jones at MSG. "Obviously, like I said, for historic purposes it would be cool to fight in Madison Square Garden. But we don't want to really give this guy what he wants. Yeah, yeah. I guess I'll think about April 23."

Jones, who holds a 21-1 record, has not fought since scoring a unanimous decision win against Cormier at UFC 182 in January. He was arrested for hit-and-run, which forced UFC to strip him off his title.

Cormier has made it no secret that he has issues facing Jones in New York because he feels fans there will be sympathetic towards the former champion despite being involved in a huge controversy.

Jones told MMA Fighting last week that Cormier's reluctance to face him in New York is a sign of being a coward. Cormier fired back and said that Jones did the same thing before when he refused to face Alexander Gustafsson in Sweden.

"Jon was completely against it, because Jon said, 'I'm the champion. I should decide where I want to fight.' If I'm not mistaken, it was something to that effect," Cormier said. "It's the same situation. I don't understand how he can judge me differently than how he wants to judge himself. Again, it's just Jon being Jon."

Cormier, who has a 17-1 record, successfully defended the UFC light heavyweight title against Gustafsson in October. He won the belt via submission win against Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 in May.
