Samsung Cameras Pulled Out in the UK Due to Small Demand
Samsung cameras are being pulled out from the U.K. market because of the small demand for the gadget.
According to TechRadar, rumors of Samsung cameras being pulled out started as early as September. The South Korean tech giant has since denied those rumors until recently. In a statement, Samsung said, "In the U.K. we have seen a gradual and sustained decline in demand for standalone digital cameras and camcorders and related accessories. For this reason, we have taken the decision to phase out the sales and marketing of these products."
Although this may not affect many users because of the wide range of choices from other brands, there are those few that have invested in the NX series cameras that are bound to be left in the air. The NX series cameras have been part of Samsung's overall concept, making it a system investment rather than just a standalone camera. With the latest announcement, consumers are bound to question where will their devices end up. The DSLR cameras have briefly dominated the photography world, but with the current trend of smartphones bearing equally capable cameras, the need for the standalone device has somehow decreased.
According to TechTimes, digital cameras will now serve professional photographers instead of coming out to the market for everyday consumers. The cease of Samsung digital cameras in the U.K. may have brought some consumers the predicament of finding a service area for their cameras.
In light of this news, Samsung assured its consumers that the move to pull out their digital cameras only applies in the U.K. and does not extend to other regions.
What's left for consumers in the U.K. who recently brought their NX series is to order accessories and replacement parts from other countries. Although Samsung did not say anything about their service centers, it's more likely that they will also stop servicing their digital cameras.
Trusted Reviews, on the other, hints that there are rumors saying that Samsung will eventually stop its operation in Australia as well as some parts of Europe. Samsung, however, dismissed the idea that they are closing down operations.
Are you one of those who are affected of Samsung's announcement? What do you think will be the company's next move in terms of digital cameras?
