'Rise of the Tomb Raider' Defended by Crystal Dynamics After Rumors of Low Sales
Crystal Dynamics is not at all worried about rumors that "Rise of the Tomb Raider" did not make an impressive display of sales during its launching.
According to Attack of the Fan Boy, the developer has gone out of their way to defend the game's status, saying that Microsoft and Square Enix are happy on the results of the game and that the positive feedback from fans is what really matters.
Brian Horton of Crystal Dynamics posted a note on the Tomb Raider forums, where he said that he expects to win in the upcoming Game Awards.
"We're looking forward to the Game Awards next week where we are nominated for 'Best Action Adventure' and 'Best Performance' for Camilla," said Horton.
"Rise of the Tomb Raider" is exclusive to Xbox One and Xbox 360, so it's not surprising if it hits a dry record sale. If the game has been available to all platforms, then it might be a different story. The game was also released alongside the launch of "Fallout 4," another highly anticipated video game that has been receiving positive feedbacks.
On the Play Station Lifestyle, Horton said that while he can assure that Microsoft was equally pleased with the outcome of the game, he is, however, unqualified to discuss anything that pertains to the sales of the "Rise of the Tomb Raider."
"Square/Microsoft are happy with Crystal and Eidos Montreal and the game itself. As to the topic of sales, I'm unqualified to discuss it so I won't have anything else to say on this thread," Horton revealed.
The sales of "Rise of the Tomb Raider" are expected to pick up once the game lands on the PlayStation 4 and PC platforms next year. PC will first have the game and PlayStation 4 will follow. During this time, other games such as "Mass Effect: Andromeda" will also be released, and here's hoping that it will not dampen the "Rise of the Tomb Raider's" PlayStation 4 launch.
Play Station Lifestyle also recently reported the sales of the "Rise of the Tomb Raider," saying that it kicked off with less than 63,000 copies sold in retail compared to its predecessor, which sold around 183,000 units in just 24 hours.
