Xperia Z2 Specs and Release Date: Sony Uncertain of Android KitKat Phone's United States Debut
Many who were hoping to get their hands on Sony's Xperia Z2 smartphone this month are going to have to wait until at least May, according to reports.
"Xperia Z2 will be available in the UK during April and we are expecting to deliver to all consumers who have placed a pre-order through our key partners," a Sony spokesperson said in a statement. "We are working tirelessly to maximise stock levels in April but currently we do not expect to meet the high demand across all our sales channels."
CNET reports that problems within Sony's supply line may be the cause of the change in plans.
"Sony advises they had a component manufacturing issue from a third party who make a part for the phone," a spokesperson for Unlocked Mobiles, a U.K. retailer, said.
The highly anticipated Android 4.4 (KitKat) phone is drawing attention by featuring "the world's best camera and camcorder in a waterproof smartphone," according to Sony. Its aluminum body is protected in waterproof glass.
"The highlight of Xperia Z2 seems to be its rear camera that is 20.7MP capable of shooting videos in 4K," Press & Update reports. "The device also has a great front camera of 2.2 MP to allow for excellent selfies and video chatting."
The phone weighs 163 grams with 146.8 x 73.3 x 8.2 mm dimensions. It also features a 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Quad-core.
Sony has yet to determine when the phone will see its United States debut.
"As with all our global product launches, rollout is phased across markets and channels and exact timing and allocations will vary by market," a Sony spokesperson said in a statement.
The Sony Xperia Z2 also features a 5.2-inch full HD triluminous display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. It will be available in white, black and purple.
