Frozen is already popular as a film itself, but its soundtrack is making it even more popular.
The film's soundtrack is sitting at number 1 on the Billboard 200 list for the eighth week, which marks the longest tenure at the top since Adele's 21, according to Billboard.com.
The album is also the best-selling album of the entire year, beating out Beyonce's suddenly released album. 1.8 million copies have been sold in total while 1.5 million copies have been sold in 2014 alone.
"In general, the songs in Frozen are pretty good ... They're witty, catchy ... and utterly predictable: You can sense each musical number building from a mile away," Bilge Ebiri said in an article for Vulture. Ebiri also suggested that the film is all ready to be transformed into a broadway musical.
"For example, 'Love Is an Open Door' feels like a parody of a modern Broadway song -- like something you might have heard in The Simpsons' 'Streetcar!' But that's not necessarily a bad thing, as far as audiences are concerned. Frozen is an honest-to-God musical, a genre that, when done well, has an eager (and underserved) audience," he wrote.
Obviously the show became a hit among the younger generations as soon as it came out -- it was released right in the holiday season -- but what many people have been amazed about is how popular the film continues to be popular this far into the year. Furthermore, people are also surprised at how long the soundtrack continues to dominate the music charts this far into 2014. You can watch Frozen on iTuines.
