iPhone 6 Release Rumors, Specs, News, and Rumors: Check Out the Leaked Image of the iPhone 6 AKA 'iPhone Air'
Last week we heard news that Apple may be releasing its newest smartphone, presumed to be called the iPhone 6, as soon as September of 2014. Now new images have leaked, giving consumers a taste of what Apple is planning to deliver.
The sketch-based renderings, featured on the French website Nowwhereelse.fr, show a much slimmer handset with a larger screen. Notably, the screen actually covers the full width of the device, similar to the new HTC One M8.
The images fall in line with most of the rumors about the iPhone 6, or iPhone Air as some have suggested it may be called. The renderings are similar to what British graphic designer Sam Beckett predicted we could expect from Apple. They also strongly resemble the leaked photos of the supposed device posted on Twitter earlier this year (see above).
Beckett writes, "I wanted to keep the core design of the iPhone very much inline with what customers expect from Apple. I have given the device the title 'iPhone Air' because Apple has demonstrated that they think the iPhone is a mature enough device to warrant two versions (5S and 5C) and I believe more distinctive branding, much like the iPad Mini and Air will help to reinforce the two product lines.
Beckett may be right, as reports indicate that the new iPhone will be offered in two sizes -- one with 4.7-inch screen, the other at 5.5 inches. There will also be a significant upgrade in screen resolution.
Apple has long favored smaller screens on its smartphones. This sudden shift in design may have to do with the growing "phablet" market overseas, where many consumers rely on their phones as their sole electronic device.
The iPhone 6 is also expected to feature a new sapphire glass screen, to replace the old Gorilla Glass display, as well as a faster A8 chip
