Sheldon and Amy will finally get back together and take their relationship to the next level in the upcoming episodes of "The Big Bang Theory."

In the last episode of popular CBS comedy, Amy (Mayim Bialik) agreed to go out with Sheldon (Jim Parsons) on a friend date in spite of their ongoing friction following their shocking split in the Season 8 finale. Not only did the two really enjoy hanging out with each other, but Amy confessed to Sheldon that she wanted to give their awkward romance a second try. However, Sheldon rejected her offer to hook back up because he was too afraid of getting hurt again, reports Entertainment Weekly.

Despite Sheldon's inhabitations about getting back with Amy, spoilers from Thursday's all-new episode, "The Earworm Reverberation," reveal that the two won't remain separated for much longer. Instead, Sheldon will have some regrets about turning down Amy's offer and go after his lady love.

"Sheldon, while listening to a Beach Boys song, will realize he cannot get the song or Amy out of his head and will realize how much she has done for him and how much she means to him," teased CBS about the upcoming episode, according to The Hollywood Hills.

Meanwhile, the synopsis reveals that "Sheldon has a revelation when he realizes why a song was stuck in his head. Also, Amy invites Dave (Stephen Merchant) over for dinner despite their previously awkward date, and Wolowitz and Koothrappali become obsessed with a fan of their band, 'Footprints on the Moon,'" reports Carter Matt.

A preview video for the Dec. 10 episode also teases that Sheldon will decide to give Amy the gift of intimacy as a birthday present in the midseason finale on Dec. 17. In the video, he confirms with Penny that he is planning to "have coitus with her," leaving Penny in utter shock.

"After over five years of dating, we felt the time was right for Sheldon and Amy to finally consummate their relationship, and we're so excited for the audience to see the journey over the next several episodes," said executive producer Steve Molaro to Variety.

To add to the magnitude of this monumental moment in the series, iconic actor Bob Newhart will also reprise his role as the dearly departed Professor Proton. According to ETonlineNewhart will sport his Obi-Wan Kenobi costume and appear to Sheldon in several dreams to give him guidance about a very important decision.

The synopsis for next week's episode, "The Opening Night Excitation" reads as follows:

"After more than five years of dating, Sheldon and Amy spend their first night together. Also, Leonard, Wolowitz, and Koothrappali must decide who will take their extra Star Wars movie ticket."

Season 9, Episode 10, "The Earworm Reverberation," will premiere on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
