Cleveland Cavaliers vs Portland Trail Blazers: Preview, TV Schedule & Where to Watch
LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers are looking to end a three-game losing streak when they host Damian Lillard and the rest of the Portland Trail Blazers at the Quicken Loans Arena on Tuesday night. The Blazers are in the middle of a four-game road trip and want to continue dominating the Cavs, winning three of the last four matchups.
James was rested in their 99-84 loss against the Miami Heat as they are playing on back to back nights. He played 45 minutes in their overtime loss to the New Orleans Pelicans last Friday.
"Like everyone else, he was a little sore. That was a tough game against New Orleans, but no physical problem. No injury or something like that," Cavs coach David Blatt told ESPN.
Veteran swingman Richard Jefferson started in place of James and scored 16 points, grabbed three rebounds and dished two assists in 38 minutes of play. Kevin Love was limited to just 22 minutes and only have five points and eight rebounds.
J.R. Smith added 12 points and was feeling the absence of the best player in the world. "It's totally different. He's like a coach on the floor on top of being the best player," he said after the game. It was Cleveland's 10th straight winless game in Miami and has not won since Jan. 25, 2010 when James and Shaquille O'Neal were still playing together.
Portland lost a close game on Monday against the Milwaukee Bucks. Greg Monroe scored the go-ahead layup with 5.9 seconds left and John Henson blocked Meyers Leonard's game-winning attempt. Damian Lillard had 23 points, five rebounds and seven assists while CJ McCollum added 17 points but went 5-21 from the field and 2-11 from 3-point range in the 90-88 loss.
McCollum was involved in a scramble play during the final seconds when Michael Carter-Williams and Giannis Antetokounmpo tied him up and all three players fell to the floor with no foul called.
"I broke toward the ball and caught it, turned and they called a jump ball," McCollum said. "If the referee doesn't make the call, you have to respect it and move on."
James is expected to be back in the starting lineup while Kyrie Irving and Iman Shumpert are still out with injuries. The two starters are close to returning and both have started training with the team and will be travelling on their two-game road trip on Friday and Tuesday.
Tip-off starts in Cleveland at 7 p.m. ET and is nationally televised via the NBA League Pass. It will be broadcasted in Canada on TSN, and locally on FOX Sports Ohio and CSN Northwest HD.
