UFC News & Notes: Ronda Rousey Finally Speaks Up After Loss to Holly Holm
Former UFC Women's Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey finally spoke for the first time since losing to Holly Holm at UFC 193 last month. "Rowdy" will be featured on the cover of ESPN Magazine's "Ideas of the Year" issue, which will hit newsstands on Tuesday.
"I'm really f****** sad. It might be three to six months before I can eat an apple, let alone take an impact," Rousey told the magazine as quoted by People. The 28-year-old still has stitches on her lips and some of her teeth are still unstable due to the impact of Holm's kick that knocked her unconscious.
Rousey was issued a six-month medical suspension by the UFC but can be cleared by a head CT scan if it reveals no damage. She is also banned from fighting for 60 days and not allowed any training or contact for 45 days, per FOX Sports.
If what Rousey said was true, that she is still six months away from taking an impact, it puts the planned UFC 200 rematch between her and Holm. UFC president Dana White has confirmed that Rousey will indeed get an immediate rematch when she is ready to fight again.
"Ronda Rousey has gone undefeated, taken the sport to another level and was beating the best women in the world in 14 seconds or 30 seconds, so she deserves a rematch. Holly agrees she deserves a rematch, and we'll figure it out," White said during his appearance on ESPN's "Mike & Mike" as quoted by MMA Fighting.
The former champion also remains optimistic about her career not just in MMA but also in other ventures. "Maybe I can't do it all before my prime before my body is done. But f*** it, maybe I can," Rousey added.
While she recovers from her injuries, Rousey is scheduled to film "Mile 22" with Mark Wahlberg and Iko Uwais in Jakarta, Indonesia on March 2016. She was also cast as the lead character in the remake of Patrick Swayze's classic "Road House" movie as reported by MMA Mania.
Besides MMA and Hollywood, the Olympic medalist also revealed in a media day during her training camp at the Glendale Fighting Club in California that she wanted to become a boxing, jiu-jitsu and WWE Divas champion.
Rousey upset many hardcore boxing fans and purists when she landed the cover of The Ring Magazine for the January 2016 issue that was released last month. She already made an impact in the WWE when she helped The Rock confront Triple H and Stephanie McMahon last March at WrestleMania 31.
