Gennady Golovkin Next Fight: Is Triple G's WBA Crown at Risk?
Unbeaten Kazakh warrior Gennady Golovkin's World Boxing Association crown may be at risk.
"Triple G" may have to face the WBA "regular" middleweight champion Danny Jacobs inside the ring, if the sanctioning body deems it the right time for them to clash. WBA Vice President Gilberto Mendoza Jr. has noted that the association will have its 94th Convention in Panama from Dec. 13 to Dec. 19, and a part of the topic to be discussed is the middleweight division, noted Boxing Scene.
Golovkin vs. Jacobs soon?
The site suggested that the WBA "super" champion and Jacobs may be ordered to collide soon. It is interesting for fans to witness this match as it will be between two knockout masters.
Golovkin shines with 34 victories under his name and 31 of these were all via knockout, giving him a 91 percent knockout rating, per BoxRec. Golovkin last came out from an eighth-round stoppage win against Canadian boxer and knockout artist David Lemieux at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
On the other hand, Jacobs posts an 88 percent knockout rating with 28 of all his 32 fights resulted to knockout, according to BoxRec. He reportedly only lost one fight in his entire career, and that was more than five years ago. Jacobs tasted his first defeat against Dmitry Pirog in July 2010, but since then, he destroyed 11 of his opponents in less than six rounds, with the exception of Caleb Truax who lasted 12 rounds with him. Yet, all of his fights after his loss to Pirog were via stoppage victories. On Dec. 5, Jacobs stopped the clock in the first round of his fight against Peter Quillin at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Thus, Golovkin should be wise in dealing with Jacobs as he is someone who has tasted defeat and chose to embrace it to transform him into a greater warrior.
Moreover, Golovkin does not terrify the Brooklyn, New York native. "Miracle Man" shared that he is not afraid of "Triple G," but he also wants to be properly compensated for the risk involved in huge fights, Bad Left Hook noted.
"I didn't come into this sport to duck and dodge no one. He's not someone who I fear. He's not someone who I look at as someone to avoid. Obviously when you're dealing with a sport like this, you want to make sure you have the finances where they need to be in order for it to be such a big fight. That's all I'm worried about. I'm just making sure that I get in there and get compensated correctly," Jacobs said.
Can Golovkin reign over Jacobs when they meet?
