WhatsApp Emojis: How to Add Brand New Unicode 8 Emoticons to the Android App
WhatsApp users can now enjoy a bunch of new emojis. More icons to express emotions are now available in the latest beta update version for WhatsApp.
WhatsApp 2.12.374 beta update offers a brand new set of emojis, according to Phone Arena. Unfortunately, excited users can't have it yet unless they are willing to manually install on their Android device.
N4BB further shared that this WhatsApp beta update is not yet available globally but will roll out soon. Aside from the emojis to make the chat experience even more interesting, it also offers bug fixes and performance improvements.
Some of the new emojis included in the latest WhatsApp 2.12.374 beta update are nerd face, an inverted smiley, a pair of rolling eyes, a thinking face, tacos, unicorns, money face and more. Phone Arena shared that these new emojis appear to be part of the Unicode 8 set released for iOS in the most recent 9.1 firmware version.
Moreover, N4BB explained that upon getting this beta update, WhatsApp users will find the emojis more organized as it has been categorized into sections, making it faster and easier to search them. Specifically, the new emojis are now classified into eight different tabs, instead of five.
To add the new emojis to the WhatsApp mobile application, users can begin by downloading the Android beta version. Visit the Phone Arena's report linked above for the download links of the update file.
After securing a copy of WhatsApp 2.12.374 beta for Android on your device, go to the phone's status bar of the Android gear and tap on the download notification. Phone Arena shared that installing the Whatsapp beta version will ask for several app permissions, however, users need not fret.
Simply tap "next" on each prompt until the installation begins for WhatsApp beta update. And once finished, users can begin chatting with friends and show off their new emojis.
As described on its official website, WhatsApp is "a cross-platform mobile messaging app" allowing users to "exchange messages without having to pay for SMS." The application is currently available for various platforms such as iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Phone and Nokia.
"Because WhatsApp Messenger uses the same internet data plan that you use for email and web browsing, there is no cost to message and stay in touch with your friends," the description further said. Aside from basic messaging, users can also make groups, send photos, video and audio messages with WhatsApp.
