The next hybrid laptop and tablet device is now on sale. The Google Pixel C is Google's attempt to try and overtake the tablet and hybrid market that is currently highlighted by Apple iPads and Microsoft Surface Pro tablets.

The Pixel C is a tablet that when paired with an optional keyboard, turns into a hybrid, CNet reports. The Pixel C starts at $499.

The Pixel C is not a full-featured laptop. Instead of using a desktop-based operating system like Chrome OS, the Pixel C uses the smartphone operating system Android. This is similar to iPads that use the iOS operating system.

When the Pixel C is combined with the optional magnetic Bluetooth keyboard, it becomes a productive work tablet. The keyboard is designed very well and makes typing on the sharp screen an easy task. For a business tablet, the Pixel C is faster and easier to use than the iPad Air 2.

The screen on the Pixel C is a nice 10.2-inch display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,800 pixels. That is a better resolution than both the iPad Air 2 and the Microsoft Surface 3.

This is Google's first tablet that they created on their own and it has a great look and feel to it. With an anodized aluminum frame, the Pixel C looks just as nice as any Apple iPad. The tablet feels smooth to the touch, but it is a little heavier than the iPad Air 2. However, if the Pixel C is used in laptop mode, users will not need to be lifting it, since it will be propped up by the keyboard case.

There is no trackpad with the Google Pixel C, so that is one factor that makes it more of a tablet than a laptop. This means more tapping and no moving around with a trackpad.

The Pixel C will use the latest version of Android, Android 6.0 Marshmallow. All of the latest Android features will be included with the Pixel C including On Tap. On Tap scans the items on a user's screen and displays results from the Internet related to the on-screen content.

The Pixel C will start at $499 for the 32 GB model or $599 for the 64 GB model. It can be purchased from Google's official web store.
