'System Shock 3' Coming as Hinted by a Teaser Website? Remake of Original Game Announced
The highly acclaimed first-person shooter game is set for a return. System Shock 3 has been hinted in a teaser page.
PC Mag reported that Otherside Entertainment put up a teaser site on Tuesday, showing a countdown of what seems to be for the System Shock 3, as decoded by a member of RPG Codex Forum. The timer, as of this writing, is set to reveal the game in four days.
Though nothing has been confirmed yet, according to GameSpot, there is a separate page featuring a System Shock 3's logo. However, the report noted that this page seemingly went live erroneously.
PC Mag shared that Night Dive Studios currently owns the full rights for the System Shock game franchise. It announced that it is planning to create a remake for the original version of the game.
Furthermore, Night Dive Studios revealed that it will partner with another game studio to be able to come up with a System Shock sequel.
"To really do another game in that series is going to take resources and time and commitment that we don't have, and it's really not our core business," Stephen Kick, Night Dive Studios chief executive shared.
Currently, it is still unclear if Night Dive is involved in the rumored System Shock 3 teased by Other Side. Engadget shared that even though Night Dive expressed their plans of creating a sequel, it looks like they are not part of System Shock 3 since the OtherSide logo is the only one present on the teaser website currently running.
"Join the original team behind Ultima Underworld on a quest to rekindle this legendary fantasy RPG series," the website description noted. However, Engadget post pointed out that this description may be a leftover from an old page they had for an Ultima game.
Speaking of Ultima, OtherSide Entertainment is currently developing a sequel to Ultima Underworld. According to PC Mag, the game was able to raise $860,356 through a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign.
System Shock, released in 1994 for PC, is a first-person shooter title that contains role-playing game elements originally created by Looking Glass Technologies. 21 years later, an Enhanced Edition for the PC has been released, restored by Night Dive Studios.
According to a previous GameSpot report, System Shock Enhanced Edition now supports resolutions as high as 1024 x 768. The original version only used 640 x 480 resolution.
The Enhanced Edition also offers a system for item management as well as a "more intuitive" inventory. Accordingly, it is currently available at GOG.com.
