A new report reveals that the U.S. 2016 presidential race was the most talked about topic in the world on Facebook in 2015, while President Barack Obama topped the list of most discussed politicians across the globe.

Although the 2016 race for the White House is still nearly a year away, new data released by Facebook on Wednesday shows that the election was the No. 1 most-discussed topic of the year. The data report, which measured global conversations on the popular social media outlet, found that the terrorist attack in Paris was second on the list of topics with the most buzz for the year.

The data also shows that hard news stories including ISIS and the Nepal earthquakes dominated most of the conversations taking place on Facebook, rather than pop culture, entertainment, or celebrity news.

"This year, the most talked about global topics reflected the serious challenges people are facing all over the world -- and how our global community is connecting and coming together in ways we have never seen before," said Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook Inc.'s chief operating officer, according to The Associated Press.
