The 2014 flagship smartphone from Sony can now be updated to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update. EXistenZ custom ROM is now available for Sony Xperia Z3.

Sony Xperia Z3 became available in September 2014. GSM Arena's noted that it came pre-installed with Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Currently, the official Android firmware available for Sony Xperia Z3 is Lollipop version 5.0.2, but could be updated to the the latest Android version in the near future.

However, Sony Xperia Z3 users who want to experience the latest Android Lollipop goodies can install firmware version 5.1.1 via a newly-released custom ROM called eXistenZ. According to Team Android, the ROM is based on Sony's official firmware with version number 23.4.A.1.200 that's compatible for both the Xperia Z2 and Z3.

One of the functions of eXistenZ ROM is to "to maintain the stock look" and offer users the "same experience which is provided by Sony Xperia Z3," the report explained. Users who will install eXistenZ ROM can find all the apps from Xperia Z3 as well as the goodies from Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

Android users eyeing to utilize a custom ROM to update their smartphone's firmware should be aware that any unofficial installation will automatically render the product warranties for the device void. Because of this, the responsibility will solely go to the smartphone owner in case anything unwanted happen to the device.

Furthermore, Sony Xperia Z3 users willing to try eXistenZ custom ROM should also take note of all essential requirements needed to guarantee a successful and smooth installation procedure of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. The first thing to do is to check the battery level of Sony Xperia Z3.

Experts recommend that the battery level of their handset is at least 80 percent to avoid any power interruptions while the update is ongoing. Any problems or power disruptions during the process can potentially damage the smartphone.

Before installing Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on Z3 units via eXistenz, users first need to secure a copy of a reliable custom recovery tool on their phone. Flashing a custom ROM on any mobile device can wipe out the phone's entire memory, hence, the need for a backup.

Two reliable custom recovery tools are ClockWorkMod (CWM) or TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP). Also, enable USB Debugging Mode of the smartphone before installing a custom ROM on Sony Xperia Z3.
