Kristin Cavallari's missing brother has been mysteriously found dead in Utah.

According to People magazine, a week after he was reported missing and nearly two weeks after his 2014 Honda Civic was found abandoned along a stretch of highway in Utah, authorities revealed on Thursday they have discovered the body of Michael Cavallari.

No other details were publicly provided about the cause of death or under what circumstances the 28-year-old Cavallari was found. However, Orange County Sheriff's Department records indicate that Michael was arrested with a loaded shotgun and briefly jailed just days before he was reported missing.

The woman who called police later told authorities she was afraid because she and Cavallari had argued just two days before she spotted him lurking outside her home.

Investigators had been actively searching for him ever since he was officially reported as missing on Nov. 27.

In a statement released to the magazine, Kristin reflected, "We want to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers during this very difficult time. We have just been informed by the authorities my brother's body has been found. This is a very painful time and we are still processing it all. We kindly ask everyone please respect our privacy during our time of grieving."

Sources indicate Michael Cavallairi had long been plagued by demons, describing him as a "troubled kid" who always seemed to be engulfed by "drama."

Despite it all, Kristin Cavallairi, 30, and her brother are rumored to have always been close.

"She was always very protective of him," a source said. "She was always trying to help him. He had been trying to produce reality shows a while ago, but it didn't work out."

Kristin Cavallairi is married to Chicago Bears star quarterback Jay Cutler. The two recently welcomed their third child, a baby girl named Saylor James. Cavallairi starred in the long-running series "The Hills."
