After almost thirty years since it hit the big screen, 1980s' cult classic The Goonies is making a comeback according to the movie's director, Richard Donner.

So it must be true... Goonies never die!

Donner made the casual announcement on Friday to TMZ while he was out signing autographs in Beverly Hills.

"If you call Goonies a comic book, we're doing a sequel," the filmmaker said.

Donner also mentioned that he would like to make the Goonies sequel with the original cast that stars Sean Astin as "Mikey" Walsh, Josh Brolin as "Brand" Walsh, and Corey Feldman as Clark "Mouth."

Will the original cast members reunite for Goonies 2? Well, we'll just have to wait and see. However, TMZ reports that there's been talk about a Goonies sequel in the works for years with Josh Brolin even hinting at a sequel script that was written in 2010.

Sean Astin is yet another cast member who wants to see Goonies 2 come alive.

While promoting Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles last year, Astin told IGN that he was absolutely positive that a sequel would be shot. Sequel buzz has only amplified since then according to Variety.

"It will happen," he said. "I'm 1000 percent certain there will be a sequel. I will bet my children on it."

Whether the movie will follow the original stars 30 years later or feature them in cameo roles has yet to be determined.

The 1985 film was written by Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus and was listed as one of the top box office hits of that year.

The story's premise features a group of pre-teens from the "Goon Docks" neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon. As they attempt to save their homes from destruction, the young group discovers an old Spanish map that leads them to the treasure of One-Eyed Willie, a legendary 17th-century pirate.
