Nicki Minaj Testifies at Meek Mill's Parole Violation Hearing, Assures Judge She Will Help Him
Nicki Minaj testified before a criminal court judge this week that she plans to help boyfriend Meek Mill adhere to all the terms of his parole.
The New York Daily News reports the "Anaconda" singer is desperate to keep her boyfriend from being remanded to custody for violating the terms of his parole by recently escorting her to a recent industry award show. The two were recently spotted in Los Angeles at the American Music Awards.
Minaj took the stand in the Philadelphia held proceedings after a lawyer for Meek hinted to the court that the two were seriously contemplating marriage as they grow closer in their yearlong relationship.
Later, the 33-year-old Minaj told the court the two are now living together, and she's convinced she has more influence over him than his parole officer.
"She's not going to be the one sleeping alone if he goes to jail. I am," Minaj told the court. "He's not perfect, but I can't believe how much he's changed."
The recently three time Grammy nominee also told the court that from now on she will help him stay organized and working towards fulfilling the terms of his community service.
Prosecutors have argued the 28-year-old Philly born rapper repeatedly violated parole terms in a 2009 gun case by constantly changing his court-approved travel schedule. Initially, he was sentenced to two years in prison and spent a year on house arrest.
Back then, the judge also ordered him to undergo anger management and parenting improvement classes.
"He doesn't have a lot of structure," Minaj told the court. "He can be irresponsible. Since I've come in his life, I think I've been working on that a little bit. ... He's just getting accustomed to being an adult."
Meek burst onto the national scene in 2012 with the release of his "Dreams & Nightmares" debut album. He recently released a follow-up, "Dreams Worth More Than Money."
