'The Voice' Season 9 Recap: Season's Final Four Announced, Justin Bieber, Missy Elliott to Perform on Season Finale
It's Final Four time on Season 9 of "The Voice."
According to the L.A. Times, Team Adam's Jordan Smith, Team Blake's Emily Ann Roberts and Barrett Baber and Team Gwen's Jeffrey Austin are the last contestants standing after more performers were sent packing than there are still in the competition last week.
Braiden Sunshine, Shelby Brown, Amy Vachal, Madi Davis and Zach Seabaugh were all ousted, but not before creating a season of dramatics of their own as their last performances played out.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night was the ouster of Team Pharrell member Davis. Although just 16, the Kentucky teenager had long since established herself as one of the competition's most polished vocalist and overall versatile performers.
After Smith, Roberts and Baber were all waved through to the finals, most would agree the last survivor's spot came down to between Davis and Austin. But alas, the teen's rendition of Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over," though more than competent, was no match for Austin's powerfully sparkling version of Ed Sheeran's "Make It Rain."
In the end, it was enough to have both Stefani and Levine rising to their feet in thunderous applause, with Stefani calling the choice for the final finals spot "obvious," and branding his overall abilities as "unbelievable."
Spellbinding as Season 9's final four contestants may be, all eyes don't figure to be on them come next week's finals -- at least not all the time.
NBC has announced a who's who list of big-name performers scheduled to take part in the finale, which includes Justin Bieber, Coldplay, The Weekend, Sam Hunt and Missy Elliott.
Elliott previously appeared on this season's show as a special mentor for Coach Pharrell Williams. It's unclear of the schedule calls for each of the stars to perform solo or along with one or some combination of the remaining contestants.
