On the Dec. 14, winter finale of "Supergirl" fans will be left with plenty of questions when the episode, titled "Hostile Takeover," ends with not one but two cliffhangers.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the episode, which features Kara (Melissa Benoist) taking on her aunt Astra (Laura Benanti), will complicate things for Supergirl and add a lot more unexpected drama.

"This is a huge episode for us," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said. "We have two pretty big cliffhangers - one emotional and one literal. Just like any of our other shows, it's really an epic two-parter and part two kicks off when we get back in January."

Episode 7 ended with Kara getting captured by Astra's loyal followers, but in the finale the two will fight in what is to be the biggest battle Supergirl has taken on.

"There's a little bit of a surprising revelation that Astra has figured out a way to neutralize Kryptonite," said Kreisberg. "That's certainly going to make her a little bit tougher to deal with."

The fight, while grand because both Kara and Astra are equally powerful Kryptonians, will also be personal because it will challenge Kara's ideas about her mother.

The episode will be an emotional one for Kara, especially when her aunt, who Kara has only seen as a villain so far, makes some surprising revelations about her mother, testing Kara's loyalty and making her question whether she really knew her mother at all.

While fans will get hints of what Astra's ultimate goal is, the true nature of her plan will be revealed when the show returns in 2016.

When the series does return, fans will be happy to know that Kara will get a new love interest in the form of Adam Foster, a stranger with ties to Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), who will be played by Benoist's own husband Blake Jenner.

Benoist spoke to Collider about the new love interest and Kara's complicated love life.

"By the time that [Adam] shows up a lot has happened with the other men in her life.," she explained.

"I like to think that, sometimes, the better Supergirl gets at her job, Kara's personal life kind of suffers. You can't juggle everything and be good at everything all at once. When she meets Adam that's definitely the wrench in the machine of her life, in terms of CatCo."

The winter finale of "Supergirl" airs Monday, Dec. 14, on CBS.
