NYC Bar Serves 'Flight 370' Cocktail Named After Missing Malaysian Flight NH370
A bar in New York City raises eyebrows of many by serving a cocktail named after the recent tragedy of Malaysian Airlines flight, which went unexpectedly missing while on route from Kuala Lumper and Beijing on March 8.
Mother's Ruin, a popular "cocktail temple" located in NYC's Nolita area, added "Flight 370" on its drinks list last week - this was just a week after the Malaysian prime minister said "beyond any doubt" that the 239 passengers onboard missing plane MH370 were dead.
"We change our drinks up every other day," said a male bartender who currently works at the bar. "We added that one [Flight 370] to our menu on Monday."
The alcoholic drink, which cost $13, was made of gin, lemon, aperol and grapefruit bitter. The bar owners, TJ Lynch and Richard Knapp, said that the cocktail has now been removed from their bar menu list. Also, they sincerely apologized for the thoughtless name choice of the drink. "We change our cocktail list and the cocktail names every week and sometimes twice a week," they said. "One of our bartenders put this cocktail up on the board. It was in poor taste and was removed as soon as ownership saw it."
"The incredible tragedy of Flight 370 is not one that we find amusing in any way and we are extremely sorry to anyone who may have been offended by what was a terrible error in judgment," they added.
