Canadian pop singer Shawn Mendes has been confirmed to be performing at the 2016 People's Choice Awards.

According to a press release, the 17-year-old will take the stage at the award show, which honors the biggest stars of the year in film, music, television and digital media.

The "Stitches" singer confirmed the news on his Instagram account captioning a photo with, "So excited performing on @peopleschoice awards Jan 6th !!!"

"Shawn is such an incredibly talented artist and we are looking forward to having him perform at our show," executive producer Mark Burnett said. "He is a huge fan favorite and that is what our show is really all about, the fans."

Mendes is not only a performer but also nominee. The singer is nominated for the first time ever and is up for Favorite Breakout Artist.

This year the former social media star has seen a lot of success. Mendes had his first top 10 song on the Billboard Hot 100 charts with "Stitches," toured with one of the biggest stars on the planet, Taylor Swift, on the biggest tour of the year, The 1989 World Tour, played a sold out Radio City Music Hall show, had his own tour, won a few awards and was named one of Time's 25 Most Influential Teens, for the second time.

The teen also took part in this year's iHeartRadio Jingle Ball tour, which concluded on Dec. 11 in New York City at Madison Square Garden.

The pop singer took the stage along with other major artists like Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Tove Lo, Fifth Harmony, Calvin Harris, Zedd, Fetty Wap, 5 Seconds of Summer and The Weeknd, to name a few.

The People's Choice Awards will be hosted by Jane Lynch and will air live on CBS at 9 p.m.
