Minecraft Video Game News Update: Simpsons Spoof MInecraft In Couch Gag, Movie in Works
The Simpsons couch gag at the beginning of every episode is known for mocking, mimicking or parodying current events, trends and pop culture.
On Sunday's 547th episode, The Simpsons family was transformed into Minecraft block version of themselves during the opening couch gag, according to Time Magazine.
The opening title was dubbed "Simcraft" and featured the family going around a Minecraf version of their hometown of Springfield, Colo.
At the end of the show's couch gag, Moe make an appearance as a Creeper who explodes tearing apart most of the blocks that made up the family and couch in the living room, Gamespot reported.
Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson responded to Sunday night's couch gag via his Twitter. He said he didn't know what to think about the parody as he as well as the game came from small, humble beginnings.
"I STILL feel a bit like it's just this small game I made at home," he tweeted. "It's so weird to have all these things happen. <3"
Since debuting in 2011, Minecraft has immensely grown in popularity and has also been parodied in an episode of South Park last season. And Deadline Hollywood reported last month that Warner Bros. is developing a Minecraft feature film following the success of the Lego Movie.
The Simpsons episode "Luca$," however, was not all Minecraft-inspired, only the opening couch gag. The rest of the episode focuses on Lisa dating a competitive eater-in-training despite Marge's objection while Bart hides a friendship he struck up with Snake Jailbird.
Additionally, The Simpsons' creators weren't the only ones to parody Minecraft recently, as group of Titanfall and Minecraft fans developed a combination of the two in Ironfall, according to Imgur.
"When we saw Titanfall, we knew right away that we would have to try and remake it, to the best of our abilities in Minecraft," the creators told Imgur. "This is Ironfall the product of that idea."
The game works similarly to an Attrition match on Titanfall where two teams of eight pilots earn points by killing each other.
